Yes, a holiday just 7 weeks after starting to work might seem a little early. But I had planned this trip even before
coming to Nepal: Michele was taking his second sanity-break from South
Sudan back home in Italy, and even if I couldn't claim a fully
justifiable need for a sanity-break myself, working 7 weeks practically non-stop gets pretty intense even if it's among rice fields and Himalaya peaks - and so I had looked forward to this
time off immensely.
And it turned out to be even better than I had expected. And not because of the quantity of Prosecco that I consumed. I guess simplicity is the key word.
Well. Simplicity. When I landed in Venice, at midnight - equivalent to 4am Nepali time - after 24 hours of travel, with 6 hours delay on departure from Kathmandu because of the monsoon and other 5 hours spent in Istanbul airport because of the missed connection, tired and smelly, and I was told that the following day I'd meet not just Michele's close (Italian-speaking) family, but a whole 15-member (Italian-speaking) family crowd ranging from the grandma to the cousins... THAT perspective seemed anything but simple.
It's a mystery to me how this encounter managed to remain simple, easy and relaxed - but it was actually just that, and lovely in addition!
And there were just good things throughout the whole week.
A trip with the legendary Vespa.
My first climbing trials (followed by a bath in the Piave).

And food and food and food and food and food and food. And ice-cream.
Gah, this place was hard to leave.
Now I'm back in Nepal, equipped with cheese and wine to last me for the last month of my contract. What next remains to be seen - any ideas for inspiration? :-)
